cross section view aborted????

I have a flange that I'm trying to make a section view thru 2 port holes, however no matter which way I define and reference the datum plane for this simple planar section and view it keeps giving me the error message "cross section on new view XX, aborted". It will let me do a section on any other plane in the model. I've rebooted and tried starting over, tried creating a new drawing, etc. Has anyone else had this problem before???

yes. I referenced the view and cross section using the same front datum plane. So everything is parrallel to the screen in the drawing.

in a drawing it won't make a section view. it keepgiving the error message"Cross-section creation in view "new_view_4", on sheet 1, aborted" - the model it works just fine.
