Default second sheet

Does anybody out there know how to include a default second sheet in a drawing template or format so that when you add a second sheet it loads the required sheet.

Thanks

I don't think it's got anything to do with template.

It makes more sense to be related to format.

I never tried this but this is what I would do.

When you add a second sheet to a drawing that new sheet gets the format from the first sheet. So open the format that you have on the first sheet, add a second sheet to the format, put tables , notes whatever you like, and save the format.

Then in your drawing add a second sheet, now my logic says to me it should add the second sheet from the format.

Butwill have to see... I don't have Pro-e on hand at the moment, I will try this tomorrow to see if it works.

I the mean time try to see if it works.

Using a start drawing, you can insert the primary and secondary sheet formats. Then when you add sheets, it will add the 2nd format. The downfall is, when doing single sheet drawings, you always have to delete page 2...

"Then in your drawing add a second sheet, now my logic says to me it should add the second sheet from the format."

This is correct. A format can hold 2 sheets. If you have this and add a second sheet to your drawing, it will get the second sheet from the format. If you add a third sheet to the drawing, it will again get the second sheet from the format and so on.

I've got two separate format files, call them A3_sheet_1 and A3_sheet_2. How can I insert A3_sheet_2 as a second sheet in A3_sheet_1 and save it as a new format A3_2_sheets? Don't tell me I have to do a save as DXF and import because that will kill all the tables with parameters. It should be simple but I can't find it.

Yeah just tried this myself, and it's working. A second sheet in format will add the right sheet in drawing....bla bla...

dr_gallup: it should be a simple copy paste. This I tried now and it remains parametric. Open both formats, select all that you need and copy, and paste in the other format (oh... first add a second sheet to your A3_sheet1 to have where to paste).

At first I thought it should be a simple insert / shared data from file, like you usually make with a drawing but I see that's not working...hmm

Thanks, copy paste worked a treat. I was also trying to insert or open the other file. Absolute coordinates got it placed correctly too.

maxweston, does the template has 2 sheets but different format? eg. first sheet A4 format, second sheet eg A1 format.

I have made a drawing template for it. Create a new drawing with A4 format, then add a second sheet.

Go to the second sheet, RMB and select page format, click sheet 2 and replace with A1 format.

System prompt, you select Remove All Parameters. The sheet 2 is changed to A1 format. You can change it to template then save.

I test again today. It should create a new empty drawing first (the
size is not improtant), then change to template mode. you can then add
format, it keeps the parameter when you change to template mode.

Let's take this a little further to understand better the template stuff.

I do all or most ofmy work with Intralink so I always make duplicates for new drawings using the existing ones. So those are "templates" for my new drawings, they have the right settings and stuff. I make duplicate after the part & drawing, change the part to the new shape, the drawing gets updated automatically. I don't use templates as start part files.....as a true template...

To your method I see one draw back:

Say I have an existing drawing. How do you add the correct second sheet if you use templates? You need a format to be able to addthe correctsecond sheet.

I guess templates areOK to have 2 sheets if you know from the start you will need a drawing with 2 sheets. Otherwise like someone said (tg), you will end up deleting the second sheet everytime you make a new drawing.

Just trying to understand how your template will work. Well...I have a general idea about them.... Correct me if I'm wrong.

Let's say something for my company "uncommon" standard for the drawings.

Every drawings created must has a "cover" page showing the revisions,
description of change...etc. that's why I need a template for two
sheets as default (even two different drawing size).

"Say I have an existing drawing. How
do you add the correct second sheet if you use templates? You need a

Yes, templates are not able to do so. So we have a format available.

"I make duplicate after the part

updated automatically. I don't use templates as start part files.....as
a true template..."

We do not have intralink and another PDM software. We have huge
problems in remaning, duplicating assy and parts, share the common
parts are also problems now...we are under-going the transition from 2D
(AutoCAD) to 3D.

Thanks for clarifyingthis for me. I understand now....

You should get a PDM, not necessarily Intralink, I see there are some other PDM system out there that you should consider. It's like "magic" you will not have to worry about renaming, duplicating with drawings...where used...using parts from different folders....
