Dimensioning hidden datums

In WF1, when you created a feature with an "on the fly" datum for the sketch plane, and then "table" patterened this feaure, within the "pattern group", it also patterened the datum plane. To show the dimension for these datums on the drawing, you could select them from the model tree.

We have just upgraded to WF3, andthe "patterened" datums to not show up in the model tree, just the patterned features and the original "fly" datum. How do I show the dimensions for the other datums? They do not show up anywhere in the model tree.

I tried that. I get the dimensionin in the one direction, but not in the direction that the "fly" datum was created in.

Did you try to show all dimensions for "View" through show and erase? It may suck, but sometimes I have had to do it in order for a patterned datum dimension to show up.

Thanks, I did that this time to show the dimension. This was a relatively easy part with only 50 or 60 dimensions. Most of the time that is not even an option because we work with aerospace parts that can have several hundred dimensions.Trying to fine the one and only dimension that is for this feature would take all day to find. There has to be a better way to show this dimension.

I wish there was, when I run into that problem though, that is the only solution I have ever found that works, and yes, if you have a lot of dimensions, it can be very difficult to find the one you want.

hi

ive found a different way yo solve the problem. Create the feature using a datum on the fly. Proe automatically makes this a group of sorts which contains the 'on the fly datum'. Now do something real strange:- create a group of the feature created using the datum on the fly, the datum will stay with the feature and automatically be created in the group, (its hard to explain but try it). Now pattern the new group that you have created. now each of the features within the pattern will have a datum on the fly embedded in them.

Dimensioning is now easy use the old way pick the the item in the model tree with the left mouse button, it highlights, click the right mouse button 'show dims' and 'show dims by view' appear as options.

no trolling through masses of dims to find the one you want!

i am still confused about using embeded datums func

I used it in 2001, but since I work only with WF2 I did all as the normal datums, and than when I must work with models from 2001 with embeded datums, I can not changed them, and they are not in the model tree and I feel confused

so finaly, now I prefer to do all datums in common way
