Drawing Notes and Symbols

I am making a standard drawing note and saving it for all our staff to use. I have several symbols in this note (ie

I like that idea. BUT, you must place the symbol right? Do you then make the mapkey delete it as well?

Can this be done with a drawing template?

You don't have to place the symbol.

After retrieving the symbol, just cancel the symbol creation and then add your note.

Any symbols that are used in the drawing get stored with the drawing.

You may be able to create a drawing template, but I am not sure.

You can place frequently used symbols in drawing templates. However, Pro/E saves the symbol definition in the template (just like it does with drawings) so if you change a symbol you need to open all your template drawings, load the new definition and save the template. It would be so much simpler if Pro/E would just retrieve a symbol when it is used in a note for the first time.

OKAY. I am so pi$$ed off I can't see straight.

I have created 2 custom symbols to use in a drawing note. I need to post these symbol files to a drive where everyone has access to it. For the life of me I cannot find the files. I have set the "pro_symbol_dir" to a location on my c drive and I do not see it there. I don't see it anywhere. The symbols seem to be attached to the specific drawing file only. I can shut down Pro and bring it back up and it will still be with the drawing but I cannot find it to place it on another drawing.

What gives? What am I doing wrong here?

I have even read through this http://www.mcadcentral.com/proe/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=22 114&KW=creating+drawing+symbols

What makes this even more irritating is I've done this numerous times in the past.

It's 11AM and I could already use a good stiff drink.

Did you try writing the symbol to a directory? Under the SYM GALLERY set the Symbol Dir and then use Write to choose the symbol Name to create an *.sym file.

The best way is to save a start up drawing *.frmwith your title block... and insert your symbols outside the border, then erace them if you wish, not delete. This way they are already placed in the drawing and can be recalled when ever you start a new drawing and use the form.

Think of the old autocad drawings where you had a visable drawing and a non visable layer with all your tools
