Drawing Saving - Config Option

Hi Guys,

Is there a config.pro option to stop the part file being saved every time the 2D drawing is saved. There are 2 of us working on the same project, I'm detailing the 3D CAD files and another engineer is drafting the parts but when she saves the draft the part saves as well.

Any help would be appreciated. I have tried changing some of the config.pro settings bt nothing has worked so far.

Have you got the layer status of the drawing connected to the layer status of the model? Which value has your drawing option draw_layer_overrides_model - I assume it's set to yes, isn't it?

Sounds like this might create more problems that the freedom to work independently might warrant. At some stage the two files will have to be synchronized and then what, the drawing to the part or the part to the drawing?

Don, I dont have that option Don in the config options

Thanks for the suggestion though.

Ken, I know what you are saying but since we don't have a PDM system then the chances of me doing an update to a model file and then another engineer working on the 2D drawing and making a change to it and then subsequently saving it are pretty high andcould cause me to loose work.

Hi Karuna,

I have tried altering that option but it still saves the part file every time I save the drawings. I did think that would work but it hasn't. Maybe theres a glitch somewhere

Many drafting changes change the model. If the draftsperson is using shown dimensions, GTOLS & model notes then any change to tolerances, part parameters, etc. will require a model save.

This is one of the settings that is causing a change in your case. Having it set to No from the description causes driven dimensions to be saved with the model. There's probably others as dr_gallup and others have mentioned but this one has been easy to see in the tries I ran. With the option set to No just adding a draft dimension and changing nothing else caused a model save while showing a model dimension and doing nothing else didn't with the option set to Yes the model didn't save in either case. At some point your going to need coordinate with the detail person so they can make changes and save the model or you may need to do some of the detailing yourself if allowing them to save the model is an issue. It's been my experience that there are things you can do minimize drawing changes that cause changes in the model but you may not always be able to remove them completely.
