Multiple X-Sections, Same Name

Ryan

I have a part with several x-sections. Some of the x-sections that I need to call out have the same x-section (dimensionally). Pro-E will not let you have multiple x-sections with the same name. For example, in the picture below, sections C and E are the same. How can I call Section E, Section C?

I do not know of anyway to create 2 cross sections with the same name, nor do I think it is a good practice to do so. I have come up with a work around for you though. I created two cross sections A and A2. In the drawing you can move the letters away from the arrows as shown, and enter text to simulate the second section A-A. If you do not want the original section name to print, simply move them outside the plotting area. You will also need to move the section A2-A2 view outside the plotting area.

That's right! imagen if that dwg goes to the machine shop and they don't know which dimension relate to which section view becuase there almost similar. I assure that you'll be getting phone calls (not the one you what to get). Remember that's the wayyou commute with them (there're M.SH.That dont use dxf, parasolid, igs, etc. to do their programing, there're old school programing still out there). PLusI haven't heard about somethinglike that before, atleast not in the manufacturing world.

I believe the best way to do what you want is to create the two cross sections with different names. Move one of the cross sections outside the plot area. Then add text to the other view so that it calls out both cross sections.

Thats an o.k. solution, but the thing is, if you have a repetition of the same opreation, Why not point that outwith a note on the secc. text,or just said 2x(xxx) on the vertical dim.

In this case of a simple part with only two holes, placing "2X" at the cross section would be just fine. But what if you had a larger part with 10 or more holes,(4 of them needed the thru hole at ?.001 and 6 of them at ?.010). You wouldn't be able to tell visually which holes were which, so labelling the cross sections is needed.

I suppose another way is thechange the text to "4X marked T" in one cross section viewand "6X marked S" in the other.

Thanks for everyone's responses. Great discussion on the topic. I seem to like AllanP's second option of placing the Section B-B text below the Section A-A text, and moving the view outside of the plot area. Not ideal, but it will work.

As far as it not being good practice, if the sections are exactly the same, why would you have to take the time to draw and dimension the section multiple times? Isn't it "legal" to say that Section A-A = Section B-B?
