Per config equation value

Hello,

I have the folloing problem: in an assembly I would like
to specify a value (or a formula) for a dimension in a
specific configuration of a part of the assembly. I have
read in a forum I would write

myDimension@mySketch@myPart.part@ConfigX = 1000

though it does not seem to work. I have been looking for
a solution for a few days with no luck so far. It seems
obvious to me that this is a needed functionality.

I have already tried using the part ids the following
way:

myDimension@mySketch@myPart<1>.part

this works well when used on the right side of the
equation and distinguishes between configurations but
unfortunately, when used on the left hand side it does
not regard the instance id and sets all the
configurations at once.

Any idea?

What version of SolidWorks are you using?

In SW 2012 the default dimension edit window allows you to designate a dimension to any one or all configurations. I believe the part within the assembly must be so modified. If it is an assembly related mate there is another process.

Thanks for your answer. Actually I'd like to avoid to
modify the part itself because this is a reusable part.
So I'd like to make it parametric and driven by the
assembly on the top.

I guess the main problem with SW as for this matter is
that the instances of the part (what they actually call
the configurations) are actually defined in the part
itself. Maybe the architecture should be to define a
pattern of a part exposing parameters. These parameters
being specified by the assembly (or assembly pattern )
on top of the part. But I guess this is real top-down
design and it may not be what SW is pushing for...
