referencing parameters in drawing notes

I've got a drawing...

In this drawing I would like to reference parameters from the part (&description, &rev, &etc.). The problem I am having is that if I create a NOTE, and type in "&description", it does not link up with the "description" parameter in the part.

On the other hand, if I create a table with just one cell and give that cell the value "&description", it works as it should.

I can't use the table solution because I don't like the border's that tables give me. This is why I am trying to use notes, because they have no borders.

Why can;t I reference parameters through notes?

If you select the note and select properties do you see acolon with a number or D after &description (&description:0 or &description:D)? One thing that could be happening is you have a DESCRIPTION parameter defined as adrawing parameter. If you add the note before adding the part it will associate with the drawing parameter. Another thing that can happen is when a drawing template is created a part model is associated with it. If you create a part and change the default model in the drawing creation dialog you will notice that there are two parts, the model used in the drawing template and the model you want to detail. The note will use the model parameters from the model that was created with the template if the notes were created as part of the template. If there is more than one part associated with the drawing make sure you have the desired part active or determine the session ID for the part you want the parameters of. Another thing that can happen is when you define the note before the parameter is defined in the part theparameter is converted to plain text in the drawing. For this there are a couple of things you can try:

1) open the properties andchangethe case of one of the parameter letters (if &description try &Description)

2) in properties select the Editor button, a dialog box will open, close it and exit the properties and see if it changes

3) you can remove theparameter from the note, exit the note, and then re-enter the parameter

I think this might be the issue. I neglected to mention that I am building a format. As such, all the notes and there parameter references are put in the drawing format before a part is attached to them. Then when they are used to create a drawing, the &description and such become dumb text.

Once the drawing is made i am able to create new notes with &description, and those new notes work fine.

It appears i am losing something when I create the drawing with this format.

You don't want these notes in the drawing format (*.frm) file as the parameters only work if they are in a table. You want the notes to be in the template (*.drw) file that contains the format.
