Renaming assembly/drawing

cpen

New member
I have a library that includes an assembly and the drawings for all of the components in the assembly. I would like to "save as" ( to a new directory) and rename all of the components in the assembly and have the drawing come with the copy. I work in a no workspace enviroment. I would prefer not to have to rename the componets individually so the drawing can reference the origionally named componets.

Can this be done?

Thanks,

Carl

Hi Carl

Could you use backup?

Then rename the files to whatever you want once you're in there.

You could even copy the entire directoryin windows for that matter.

make sure you have the drawings open for the parts/assemblies you rename, and save the drawing after each renmae, otherwise you'll have a shambles...

Sip,

Example, I can "save as" the assembly and can rename all of the components (*xxx* to *yyy*) automaticly. when prompted. If I do this I will loose the association to the drawings since this is a copy. I would prefer not to have to rename the components individually.

Hi Carl,

Maybe someone else knows better, but I think you either lose your drawings, or you have to do the manual renames.

Anyone??

It will only work if your parts & drawings are named exactly the same, so it never works for us.

You might be better off using file/backup or just copy the entire dir in windows explorer (like sip said above) and then renaming all the copied objects.

Pre-2000 you could edit the text file for a drawing and fool Po-e into assuming a new model. I believe with 2000 that did not work any more.

Too bad...
