Are you recieving an error when you attempt to import a color/texture file in Pro/Engineer or are you asking how, for example, take a bitmap and make it into a texture on an object? Or is it something different?
I have run into both these problems and have fixes for both.
Hi acook
Thanks for getting back to me so soon, Im asking how? I can get the standard colours on the model ok, but would like to be able to also apply textures (ie wood, metal, brick etc) similar to 3d max and think i read some where this can be done but after playing around for some time Im cant seem to find out how??? also do you know if i can import a colour plate or picker as in photoshop,
I am using Wildfire 2.0 over here (not the student edition), and I can access textures such as aluminium, elm, marble,...etc. from View->Color and Appearance. Since you can apply colors to the model, I assume that you found this dialog. I did not add any of these textures myself, they come with Wildfire 2.0.
If I remember correctly (somebody correct me if I'm wrong), in Wildfire 1.0, however, only colors were available by default, and NO PTC generated textures were provided.
The only way I know how to add custom textures in Wildfire 1.0 is via View->Color and Appearance and goto the Map tab, from here you can add a bitmap to the surface of the model.
I may be able to export some of my textures and give them to you, although you are using a student version and possibly Wildfire 1.0, which I don't know if it will work. Here is a shot of my Color and Appearance dialog.
Hi acook
Yes many thanks it worked first time, not quite the same as you described but it got me there, for anyone else out there this is it, view-model setup-
colour and appearance-add tab in the appearance panel-detail in the appearance editor and this brings up the texture map tab, the bump map tab and the decal map tab, and from these I can import the finishes I want in this case I could import from 3d max files straight into pro/e. if possible could you send me some of your textures and I will give them a try. Many Thanks Paul
In Short to have advanced render settings, and true render images, you need ARX module (Advanced Rendering Extension).
As for adding textures, I think that isn't possible to add other then picture extensions, such as jpg, png etc
You can import materials, but only from lightworks, and lightworks extensions (.lwa).
Here is link to site where you have a lot of textures to download:
