Viseo file in dwg using OLE

We are successful in embedding a visio file into a ProE drawing. Unfortunatley when viewing the drawing in ProE the actual visio file will not display unless you hover over it with your mouse. Is there a way to make it display all the time. It is not just a visio file. Word and excel documents act the same way.

FOR ME IT BLINKS.... Perhaps more to do with the Graphics card. However to get more clarity try changing the system colors to Black on White.

I do not use OLE in proe. However I am curious to know why you use it?

We figured out that the person having a problem was running 3.0 F000. We upgraded to a later build and everything is alright now.

We are thinking about using OLE to embed a hydraulic schematic in ProE drawings that were created by a product called Hydraw in Visio. I've always been leary of OLE but dont know of a better way. The DXF output from Visio is lousy so we rulled it out. The other option is to leave the schematic in Visio as a sheet 2 of 2.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Bob

I would suggest that you keep the schematic in the original software and only provide a link in the proe drawing to the location. All design files are documents and change dynamically. If you are not using Intralink I would recommend the PDF route. PDF files would be the released drawings to the shop floor and it is immaterial what software you used to create them.

So are you suggesting embedding a pdf in the proe drawing? Why not just use the visio document. I have always been leary of OLE but cannot put my finger on why. For some reason I thing that as the softwarethat created it and maintains it changes and upgrades through the years that problems may occur. I dont feal good having documents embedded in documents that are design records that need to exist for many years.

Do you have these fears?

Bob

Frankly I am against embedding. If I can avoid it I shall do so. I am only suggesting that Proe files remain as Proe files and Visio files remain as visio files. What you release to manufacturing will be in the form of PDF files.

By doing so you get the freedom to edit your Design data (which happen to be DESIGN DOCUMENTS and NOT RECORDS) in the software of your choice and also exercise control over the documents issued to manufacturing in the form of freely readable PDF files which can also be termed as DESIGN RECORDS.
