You could make a suitable cut in the part and suppress it, then use a family part to resume it and assemble, then use simp rep for the assembly drawing.
I need to do that sort of thing all the time. The way I do it is make an assembly cut and then only allow it to intersect the item you would like to see behind.
Thanks Everyone for the reply. I was hoping I had missed an easy way to do in drawing with a spline to define the cut out. I ended up using simp reps to do it.
