Mechanisms and Exploded Views in Dwgs

Hello-

I have a part that resembles a box with a lid on it. In the model, I used mechanisms to create a hinge to allow the lid to move freely between 0 and 120 degrees.

I wish to create 2 views, one with the lid open, and one closed. To complicate things, I want to explode each view. The problem I am facing is that both views are still dependent on the model, so it is impossible to create 2 different views. If I have the lid open, it shows it is open in both views. I know I can explode a view and then use snapshot, but is there any other way to do this? (I would prefer not to use snapshot in case the model changes).

Please let me know thanks.

I use Pro/Engineer Wildfire 2.0

Thanks for the help,

Jonathan

Open the assembly.

Applications --> Animation

Create snapshots of various positions.

Select the positions required in drawing. Right click and select "Make available in drawing"

In the drawing mode, Insert the general view or any such preferred view, View State... Exploded...Choose the snapshot that you created. Repeat the process for other snapshots.

Trust this helps.

To correct above described procedure...

Open the assembly mechanism.

Applications --> Mechanism (not Animation).

You can also do it with a family table.

Make the lid at 0 degrees in one instance and whatever angle in the second one.

Two different explode states takes care of the other problem.

I do this with family table like dross sugested where I need to show 2 views (open / close)

But when I need to show the open/close position in the same view I make a shrinkwrap of the close position, assemble it in the assy (which is in open position)then in drawing I change the linetype of the shrinkwrap to phantom transpararent.

You can also do this by inserting the lid twice, once in the open postion, once in the closed. Then make one of the lids phantom in the view.

I forgot to tell you....I do the second (with the shrinkwrap) only for large assemblies, where if I would assemble it again it will make the assy very hard to manipulate. And also for the assemblies I only make a shrinkwrap for the components in motion.

But yeah for small ones you can do that.

Skraba,

Both Animation and Mechanism will work... The idea is to create snapshots of various positions...

Somebody should also try it with exploded views... (Viewmanager) Perhaps it should be possible to achieve it reason being finally when you insert it in the drawing, you set the exploded state.

Family tables may work but would not be the right choice, since you will be creating addinional assemblies for nothing.

Correct me if I am wrong.

I for one would use family tables in assemblies. Adding an extra instance takes very little memory. Adding the part twice in the assembly screws up the BOM.

Yeah that's another reason.....why I assemble a shrinkwrap because it's easy to filter from BOM and doesn't screws the BOM.
