Patterns using curves - need advice

I am trying to create a pattern using a curve. I am tryingto create a cut on an inside wall of a non-circular surface. I have created a curve along this surface and now want to create an equally spaced cut along this surface. Everytime I work thru the pattern after creating the first cut the pattern seems to stary away from the surfeace. I place the first cut at the start point of the curve.

I'm assuming this isnt a flat surface or you wouldnt be having this problem. Is this a projection curve? Try grouping the curve and the cut together when you pattern it.

The curve is in a single plane and I have referenced the curve withthe cut. I was able to successfully pattern a point on the curve, then when I tried a reference pattern of the point to the cut, I recevied a failure notice saying 1) incompatible dimensions, 2) overlapping geometries. Could there be a problem with the curve?
 
ok.. select ur curve.

place 2 datum points on ur curve in the same feature. i use "real" values vs "ratio" just depends which way u like to work it.

make a VSS on ur curve. Drag the start and end points to the 1st and second points.

group the points. + VSS

pattern the points over a value.

make sure that your points dont overlap or 1 go behind the other as you pattern as this will produce errors. If in doubt pattern the points b4 doing the VSS to make sure you have done this correctly.

Best to take it a step further.
if u take a Analysis feature and some equations u can really make this very kool and adaptive.

I actually solved this by just re-creating my curve internally rather than having an external curve.

That is the same exact problem I had. I stoped it simply by creatingthe curve internally in the pattern creation rather than selecting a curve. A bit inconvienet but it worked for me.
 
sorry mate i can only open wf2 files. ur in wf3

might be a bug in wf3 ? maybe ur on a beta versions or something

patterning a point on a curve, any curve really is quiet simple.


make a curve
put a date point on the curve
select the point hit pattern

I dont think there is a bug in WF3. Your procedure is wrong.


You are right to the extent of creating the curve.


While making datum points, make TWO points instead of ONE.


Say you need a total of 50 points, Your first point will be at a ratio = 0 and the next would be at a ratio = 1/50 = 0.02.


Dimension pattern the points with an increment of 1/25 =.04. (25 = 50/2)


Trust this helps.
 
BY THE WAY I AM STILL ON WF2.


HOWEVER YOU CAN TRY THE ABOVE METHOD, OR WITH A SINGLE POINT WITH DIMENSION PATTERN.


ENSURE THAT WHILE SELECTING THE CURVE, THE WHOLE CURVE IS SELECTED for creating the DATUM POINT.


From the power point file it appears that only a part is selected.
 
Why would we have to place two points? I understand the reason behind it, but why is this not explained (oh wait...PTC). nevermind. Hopefully they will come through with a fix for this such that we don't have to make two points instead of one.


Possibly, could we create it from a certain distance away from a reference?
