Some surfaces behaviour makes me confused

I learned that dell peripherals are developed in their pan Asian area. FYI

or in the case of their OEM mice, any logitech ones are designed in Ireland, surfaced in Ireland and detailed in Hsinchu Taiwan! (including the HP one pictured above)

I do not care where it is manufactured. I am interested in - how it is done in Pro/E
smiley36.gif

As before - each time I am bored by some stuff - I`ve start a small project to check some things that were introduced earlier. As ussual I started with BB appraoch to bite a thing

no, it is not a sport-ski-shoe:)) It is a neck of the bottle

My appraoch:

first step of a neck

then side surfaces

BUT THERE ARE SOME PROBLEMS WITH LAST SURFACE UFORTUNATELY

in the whole buttle

p.s Each time I want to uploas my models I obtain following message. What could be the problem?

Request object error 'ASP 0104 : 80004005'

Operation not Allowed

/proe/forum/functions/functions_upload.asp, line 296

if your surface is a boundry blend then add some cross curves.

I think you will find it difficult to fade from a tangent blend to a sheer edgealong that surface, perhaps you would have more control with 2 shorter ones? Also, you will not get/want that sharp an edge in production, you will need a rad at the front. use this to your advantage.

the problems lays in surf/boundary definition - I know. I spent 20 min to play around this model last time, that was qucik, refreshing job, to restart me. I know it helps a lot, each time I stuck somewhere.

Back at home I had some time to rethink whole appraoch - after the story about Bilbo journey with Gandalf which pushed my kids to close their eyes

- and I want to try it today.

After I finish BB appraoch - I hope I will - I gonna start this model with VSS

james, nice signature - does it means I am invited?

The effort was worth the time!

you can notice there is no "artifacts" - this is how I name the sh*ty plot of curvatures or not desired transition between patches.

This is due the new modeling approach. Now the last surface contains more patches than before.

the zebra analisys shows there are still some problems to address but this I gonna tune in the close future

simplified curves network

By all means send on a CV. an expert maybe not but you are keen to learn which is half the battle!

We are actually looking for a seniour and a junior so you would never know.

As for your blend, it's looking much beter! -keep up the good work!

Cheers,

James

I stucked

from front view things seem to look right...

but front side view something tells me it not the right way...

I regret I have no fotos of real thing. I gonna try to make them and put here tommorrow.

some enhacement

I add a fillet by boundary blend. It improves general look, however I am still curious if it is the correct appraoch
smiley5.gif

Jacek, depends on the look that you are going for. There is nothing wrong with your approach to the fillet. However if you are just looking for a simple rad then you could have done just that and added a rad. There are a few options which will give you very different geo with the rad tool, like conic and d1Xd2 conic. But it does really depend on what you want. Lookis like your BB has given you good results so happy days!!

yea, it always depends on the look - eye candy desired, obvoius thing.

Still my taste of the general shape structure is not enough to say at least. Sometimes - at home - I can stuck and stare at some odd shape, and still be confused how it is done
smiley11.gif

Anyway thanks for words of reassurance.

This is with what I ended yesterday - seems I close to the end
smiley4.gif

the wire frame says everything

I`ve hope I find some time today to solidify this end end up with colored edges

Jacek, after all the work you put into these parts, you should upload them so we can see what methods you used
smiley17.gif

Seems to me like you are improving daily
smiley32.gif

Ok I gonna share with You about my secrets - in other words, how it is possible to do such parts(within the time constraints)

I try to devide duties in such manner to find for example 2-3 breaks 10 - 15 minutes long. Sometimes, when I have a possibilty to stay longer - my wife takes from kindergarden - I spent an additional 30 min.
smiley4.gif

This is how it is. I think it is better to me and my family that I am lack of Pro/E at home;)))
smiley36.gif

Anyway I ussauly send pics with some delay untill I feel I can not take model further by myself and it is right time to ask for an advice.

and in the end - I really like it
smiley2.gif

ok, the prevoius post was just for fun;)

yea I gonna do all I can do to show the way I was following to achieve things shown at attached pics.

For sure it would be introduced at my web page. Of course with some simplification since I am afraid I won`t find enough time to prepare "real" tutorial.

So, stay tune!

THX A LOT GUYS!

I put some effort to make rest of You(surfacing noobs as I am) familiar with my modeling approach

take this a small surfacing tutorial. However nothing is for free...:))) - so please find all errors, my mistakes and send improvments here on this post to let others do not reinvent wheel again:)))

so do not only automate copy my steps, try to think how it could be done better and bring Your thoughts back here. These are my cost of this effort - feedback from Your side. Hope I`ve haven`t perform lingvistic mistake;))))

Lets start - tadam, tadam, long, long time in another galaxy - sh*t, this is not right scenario...

Ok, once again - far, far a way in small country in Europe...

1)Prepare curve for main layout of a part

2)Make additionals Datums planes. change look of curve by Properties > Line Style > ctrlfond > Colour - choose that one You like

3)make bottom profile

4) Prepare side curves - they gonna play role as trajectories for main VSS

5)make the second one as mirror copy by mid plane

6) Make main surf as VSS - choose following trajectories

7) prepare VSS profile as follows

next step - splines

-and relations

sd21=700-500*trajpar
sd25=50-40*trajpar
sd26=3*sd25^2/sd21/2
sd30=sd25
sd31=sd26

8)prepare trajectory for next VSS

10)make VSS

and here it is, my 700 post on this forum! You belive it?
smiley17.gif

I would never think it gonna be like that
