WF4 When?

John Shields said:
I opened a call yesterday. This morning I could still not see it. I added acomment to the call on line asking if the people who could see it were paying more maintenace than we were. Within an hour I could see the F000 code. My call had also changed to resolved. Clearly they know what it takes to enable this. I guess the squeaky wheel gets the oil.
+1 I opened a call last night. I got a call back saying my account had to be "updated" what ever that means. This morning I still could not see it. When I checked back about 10 AM there it was. Maybe they don't want their servers bogged down by the masses downloading their bloated code. So far I've got 3/5 downloaded.

Hi everybody,

I think now ptc should go for DVD option as well. Instead of keeping 5 CDs one DVD will not be enough?

Solidworks 2008 is on DVD and its file size is more than 3GB. Althoughfile sizeis not a criteria for standard but this is a factor.

I mean ptc can add libraries in my proposed DVD, of course they can link to license, if they wish.

Since I am doing my PhD, I wont be able to have a look at the new features.

Anyhow good luck new Wildfire 4.0.

just as intresting news

For curiosity I`ve put following in google - Pro\engineer torrent - no version marked just for wide range to be obtained. Guess what - Pro\E WF 4.0 with crack was ready to download from Friday.

I think PTC should transfer a responsiblity for realising new stuff to these guys. They are fasters.

Anybody get their WF4 F000 CD's from PTC yet? I did not have any luck installing from the web downloads (probably because of my companies blistering fast web connection). I just checked and you still can not order the CD's. I might try burning CD's from home but this is starting to be more trouble than it is worth for a build we will probably never use.

they .. PTC... got to move slow because if there is a problems in an early release they get the bugs fixed early. We know the early adopter folks (us) tend not to complain so much and bugs get solved first before many of the major manufactures get their hands on early build code and bitch like kids with lots of money.

All the torrents are fake.

I got a letter today from PTC about WF4 stating "Beginning with this release, you will not automatically receive a physical shipment of the Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 4.0 (F000) software." It goes on to say you can download it or place an order. I have not been able to get the downloads to work & as of right now you still can't order it. Guess it's time to pitch a fit.

The letter also states "Wildfire 4.0 showcases a continued focus of PTC on quality and usability. By achieving a CMMI Level 2 quality rating and using a more stringent QA criteria, our persistent commitment to quality ensures that customers get the highest quality release." So I guess there will be no bugs & we don't have to wait for the first dozen maintenance releases to get a stable build.

PTC quality philosophy: We've upped our quality standards. Up yours.

So why did they announce it's availability on Jan 25, send me a letter that arrived Feb 20 but not have CD's available until the middle of March? If MS took 2 months to get Vista on the shelves from the time it was announced heads would roll.

Reseller was here yesterday and told us the release date is the date the CD ROM's go out. It will be available for download in roughly a week.

We received a letter stating "Beginning with this release, you will not automatically receive a physical shipment of the software." Downloads are available but CD copies must be specifically requested.

I see bugs in sketcher. It looks like under certain conditions, driving dimensions turn into reference dimensions with no warning when creating new geometry or modifying existing geometry. Anybody else see it? If I have time, I'll send it over to PTC.

Well, I guess the squeaky wheel does get the grease. I got my WF4 F000 discs yesterday. After I logged my call with customer support complaining about the lack of automatic shipments & the inability to order discs, PTC sent me a customer satisfaction survey to take. Needless to say, I wasn't very satisfied with the "you can order them in a couple of weeks" response I got & let them know. I got another call back saying I would get discs "just as soon as they were available".

I just checked and you can now order them on the Order or Download Software Updates page of PTC's website. Free discs for everyone! Maybe I should change my signature line?

I finally got around to actually using WF4 (I know, why did I bit@h so much & then not use it but I got really busy).

I despise how on start up the model tree area defaults to "Common Folders" instead of the folder tree. I NEVER use any of the so called "Common Folders". There is an icon all the way at the bottom of the pane that you can click to open the Folder Tree but I don't see any way to make the "Common Folders" go away. We always launch Pro/E at the top folder in our design database & NEVER save anywhere outside of that. I don't want users to even see an option to save onto their desktop or into their My Documents!!!!!!!!!!!!

I looked at "Customize Screen" but I don't see anything that will fix this. Anybody figure out how to deep six the Common Folders"?

Holy cow, I just opened in WF4 an assembly drawing that I made yesterday in WF2. I got this message:

"The Family Table of the generic will be updated to preserve the specified variations of groups. Model geometry will not be affected."

I have no idea what that means but it can't be good.

The drawing lost EVERY dimension and the layer display settings!!!

There goes any hope of using this build. Anybody else experience this?

Now I'm beginning to understand why we aren't allowed to use WF4 were I work. We can download the new version but they haven't updated the licences to support WF4.

It has never made any sense to me why PTC spits out builds constantly all the way to a major release. You start with F000 and in two days its F500,000,000. Hell, keep the damn thing at 3 and finish fixing the problems before passing them on to the next release.

You can put all the fancy stuff in software you want but then minute a user runs across the same issue from one release to the next, game over. Its labeled crap as well as the company. Somebody needs to slap PTC's software development management over the head.

Gee wiz, I wonder why ProE job postings are shrinking on a daily bases.

I guess I better brush up on the SolidWorks and CATIA.

Yes, I got burned too. First project (design side) had to be STP'd out and finished in WF3 due to the very drawing problems you mention.

If you "add" another dimension to the view (after they disappear) then you get them all back. Of course until the next time you open the file. Then they are all gone again...

Don't even get me started on the NC calc time. We are talking MINUTES for 2-1/2D paths! I can f'n write it by hand that fast on 2.5D work....

IMHO, the build is WAY premature. I am not even looking at WF4 again before we see 3M releases.

It's really a crying shame too. There is GOOD functionality in WF4 I CAN make use of.

Best regards,
Sean

LMAO! "model geo will not be affected".
Translation:
ProE is probly gonna F the model up big time here. You might want to prepare for the problems that is going to cause...
