wf5.0 released?

You can download C000 now. The Product calender shows the
release date of 9/16 so I would guess next week you should
be able to download F000

does it come with the blue, google chrome like interface, as default? is there a way to go back to the old wildfire 4 interface?

I played a little with it, the default interface is "flashy", a lot of blue gradients, not too toylike but if you were shocked by the blueish interface of Word 2007 you'll be shocked by this too :D Don't know if you can disable it, maybe if you run it with "themes" disabled from the windows shortcut options...

It seems I'm not able to run Photolux, maybe I messed with licenses, anyway the material editor can now grab surface definitions from models, there are nice thumbnails in the file view, but only for newly created files, file format is not compatible with WF5.0 preproduction

I don't like many of the interface colors (like that pale green instead of pale yellow for requesters). Oh, the drawing interface is as bad as in the preproduction: modal, slow, ribboned... I don't like it...

Why a blue gradient? This kind of interferes with the default bluish-gray model color. The contrast on the tan gradient seemed a better fit. This looks closer to the old pre-wildfire colors.
No black during the sketcher session anymore. Everything is now blue. All the dimensions & constraints are orange (?!?!?) This is going to take some time to get adjusted to.

Also Advanced Rendering Extension doesn't install. There's an SPR. Looks like I'll have to reinstall the pre-production to use pro/mental ray.

I used to like the old dark blue gradient more than anything that came after, anyway you can use old wildfire and pre wildfire color schemes...

And wait to see the blue background of the detailing module :D Anyway I took care of the sketcher background immediately, I like dark background much more...

What is an SPR? My greatest grip as far as rendering is concerned is that the camera control is cumbersome as it was before, no real meaningful update in that area, too bad

Yikes! This is going to make a lot of people unhappy.

With Pro/e WF5.0 everything is possible :
smiley4.gif

go in views >> display settings >> system colors

That is certainly and option and I bet at least 90% of users will do it. This is a big change.

I'm going to play around with this a little bit more. Maybe my eyes just need to adjust to the new color scheme after years of staring at Wildfire beige. Maybe those interface designers were onto something and all blue all the time is really better. I'm giving it two or three weeks and if it still looks fugly, I'll go back to the old colors.

Good choice. It was definitely a shock at first sight but I must say that it grew on me much faster than expected.
After a couple of hours I found it very comfortable and once back in WF4 this feels very dull and old style.
Hang in there!

This is indeed a good move, if the interface looks better I know I'll be using it more often. The interface - in the end - stares at you for every second you're working.

I'm still trying to decide if it's better. Modeling in shaded mode looks better but wireframe seems more confusing. There is definitely a more seamless quality between sketcher & the rest of the pro/e session. Perhaps this is another step towards direct modeling.

I use Solaris here and couldn't get Photlux to work on WF5 F000, although it worked on Pre WF5. It's some type of licensing issue. I called Tech Support, they confirmed it with Solaris and filed SPR 1858847. Looking at the SPR it appears it's for all platforms with no Commit or Resolved datecode. So we may have to wait later than M010.

Has anyone succeeded in installing Photolux with WF5.0 F000? Do we have to wait for M010?

It's a bug - it won't install and it's some kind of problem with the license configuration There's a high SPR (Software Performance Report) which means they are fixing it but it will take up to about a month.

You'd think someone this would come up before they release the software, but the first production release has apparently just turned in the second beta release.

This is quite surprising for two reasons: they delayed the release of WF5.0 about two months to release a better software, and this is quite a major bug, I can't figure how they did not notice it :O

Probably because only a few people ever use the first production release. The big dog customer wait a year or two or several. They probably figured it was just good enough for the few schmoes on Mcadcentral like us who would test it out.

Interesting, I missed this option, thank you. Basically if you set it to Wildfire_5 it's the new flashy interface, if you use "Wildfire" it looks like plain Win9x, completely flat, if you set it to "Standard" it inherits your Windows visual style (so it looks like Vista on Vista, Luna on XP and so on). Did you notice a promptness or performance increase?

That said, is there a way to get rid of the ribbon interface too?!? :D
