RENDERING...Q&A and GALLERY

Yeah I agree red devil, very nice. The earpieces and the phono jack look very good, and nice decal placement. Quite impressed at the wires too !!

Good work matey !

I'm confused,

Where do you guys do all these renders, in ProE? Or do you need a separate render module?

I can't find anything for textures, I don't have a clue how to setup the lights. I can import a picture of my own for the walls, but my colors on my models always wash out. I tried skwasims color setting for chrome but it doesn't give me anything for effect but a dull grey.

I've tried for years but had kind of given up on it as a waste of time. Now I see what you guys are doing, and I want to do something similar for my projects. Most are justsimple objects in an assembly, but will be used to impress the sponsors of the project.

How/where do I start? TIA for any help.

Hi Sip,

Firstly, I used to use the standard ProRender available in the standard ProE, the problem was that the results we were getting were, well, rubbish. So webrought Rhino modeller (which I don't use very much) and Flamingo render plug-in, which is what I used to render the scene on the previous page. I think CP uses the Advanced Render Extension (ARX or PhotoLux) for ProE, which as you see, gets excellent results.

If your renders are 'washed out', have you turned off all the default lights? If not, turn them off and add a light of your own, you should see better results already! As for Chrome you need something to reflect in it. If you have a grey background, then all you'll get is a grey reflection! IMO chrome is REALLY hard to get right, but when you do, it looks cool. Have you got eh ARX for ProE or just the standard renderer? I might have some tutorials, PM me with your email addressif your interested.

In my opinion, rendering is a matter of trial and error. It's taken me a long time to get renders of decent quality, keep trying and eventually you'll get something good. Try looking on the web for tips and tricks for rendering. I can recommend the following book (which I have); [Digital] Lighting & Rendering by Jeremy Birn. It's worth the money believe me.

Keep plugging away and you'll get it in the end......i did!

Thank for complements CP as well for the tips. Now I'm in state I can tell that my renders are more realistic and now I got motivation to play with renders more andget them to perfection.

Here is link to picture (well it is link to CG software but on site is that picture)
http://www.cgtoolkit.com/
What I want is to know how to render with Pro to achieve something like this (I know it is possible), I have seen that CP used term: Clay render, is this clay render? how setup material to bee so realistic and with minimal reflection?, and of course lights a lot of lights to achieve shadows, etc.

could someone share what they think is there best rendering job using the standard pro-e package so we can see what could be achieved

thanks

Yes, thats a clay render. The big wheel I posted a page or so back was a clay render, I just used different lighting, actually...most of the renders I posted in here were clay renders...hehe. You use the same setup on the model as your room or environment with little to no shine or reflection and a subtle bump map. That will give you the clay render.

Thismodel and image are probably close to 3 1/2 yrs old by now so it is definetlyrendered in Pro-E 2001. If you look close you can see that the side mirror isnt reflecting onto the car body because photorenderer cannot reflect onto itself, it will only shadow.

Set your room walls and ceiling to a neutral gray. Turn the reflectivity of that color to 1, give it a low shine with a subtle rock bump map applied planar to the parts. Use low ambient, one light bulb tinted yellow and the default distance light. That should be it.

hiiiiiiiii

Thanku CP for the tip i will surely work out on tht u said abt the subtle rock bump map i didnt get tht can u be more specific is it a texture which has to be applied on the part i mean to say is it available in graphic library of pro-e

CP I'm having problem viewing the last picture you posted (it's just me or doesn't everyone can't see it?).
Thanks again for useful tips for clay rendering

But then here is another question. ARX graphic library have a large number of materials etc., some of them have something like bump mapping but then when you go to their properties under Map there aren't any bump maps or textures, so how is this possible?
Regarding my question is how to create such materials? without using textures or bump maps? What is more interesting when you create material with same properties there aren't any bump map.
It would be nice if someone knows how materials from graphic library has been created, and how to create the same way custom materials.

Here are picture of rendered example to show that bump mapping, and picture that shown properties of material used for this render (I use stainless steel coarse material from library).

I am always trying to create, generate the real chrome shine and combination of colors or reflections... But still dont have a good result with this ... I think my best render of chrome color is this>>> But this ball still dont look like real chrome ball... Did you use Photorendering or Photolux when you creating the chrome efect?

Does anybody know, why I have nota system library of materials?

-When I click on the Material>System library,Photolux System libraryicon, I see only empty folder... Can anybody help me? Can I download it somewhere?

First of all you must have installed Graphic library, then in your config pro options mus set this
pro_texture_library
to path where you have installed Graphic library (example C:\PTC\graphiclib).
This should work and then when you select System library you should have library materials.

I dont use the graphics library, I create all my own materials. A bump map is just a texture that pro-e converts to grey and takes the darker of the image to make elevation. If you want a bump map without texture then use a simple brick texture applied in the bump setting.

MIKO- that gold ball looks great! The problem with your chrome from what I see is there is no refraction. If you are using standard photorenderer you dont have this option but if you are using ARX you will see a refraction setting on the same page as reflection, mess with that to get a more realistic reflection. Remember, the only material that has perfect reflection without refraction is a mirror. You may also want to darken your material and lower your reflection by a little bit.

My last picture that I posted isnt showing because I accidentally deleted it from online. I have to contact my hosting site and find out why I am out of bandwidth before I can get anymore images to show.
