Hi Skwasim, yeah I know. I have been keeping an eye on the forums but I have not been working with pro-e much lately as I have been off work for a few days doing home improvements hehe. I have started to model something at home, so when I get a bit further I will post some pics. Looking forward to it.

Might get around to rendering a Patio Door Handle set that I have designed at work today. Cross my fingers :O)

Hi, its me again
smiley17.gif

Just a little update : I think my pro-e skills are improving. A brave statement I know. But in the past two months of learning pro-e from scratch I have managed a little bit of modelling extrusions, surfaces and a small bit of rendering, I dont think I am doing too badly and to be honest I am enjoying learning it too which helps. I just wish I had more time. Anyway, the following design is a combination of all things I have learnt so far....

.... I have quite a tight deadline to get this prototype model of for quotation etc so I have not got much time for rendering, but thought I would show you what I was working on anyway.

The customer requires a more " fashionable " door handle for thier Sliding Patio Door range, attached an image of the handle itself in my modelling colours and a couple of renders on the customers door profile. He wanted a " Pewter and Chrome " effects... laugh away

The patio handle in my modelling colours... nothing fancy ^ above ^

The " Pewter " effect, best I could manage using chrome effect and reflecting a blue-ish background ^ above ^ and finally the chrome effect ( needs work i know

Back to the real work of designing and detailing etc... rendering will come later when I have got better at the basic. Have fun guys !!

Forgot to add guys, the patio handle lever ( curved part ) I found incredibly tricky to get just right using surfacing, I am still struggling with surfaces to be honest and its not good being that I have to design shapes like this regularly. Other parts were quite simple, apart from the door profile ( plasic parts lol ) which took quite a lot of sketching and drawing to get the profile exact.

I am not just the designer at this company you see, I also have to provide the factory with the working drawings and production pieces, so I try to get my models as accurate as possible, other "hardware" will be designed to fit this door profile so my original model has to be accurate. Scary stuff for a pro-e noob

Hey Skint,

Render looks great, I see what you mean about the chrome though.

I'm 'trying' to teach myself ISDX in my spare time i.e. staying on after work etc, have you tried working with it yet? Hopefully post a render when I get chance.

Rgds,

Lee

Hi Lee, I have never used the pipe feature, dont think it would work for this handle lever anyway as its not entirly round, I will post another pic showing the side view and you will see the thickness change.

I have not even attempted ISDX yet, it seems way too tricky for me, also it does not seem very " controllable " in terms of getting exact dimensions etc... so for my job I would not be able to use it yet.

When I have progressed with the basics a little more I may give it a try :O(

Hi Skint,

From what I've seen so far, there appears to be a certain amount of control in the sense of coordinates etc. At the mo I'm trying to utilise ISDX in a project thatI am currentlyworking on (bearingin mind I haven't finished the training manual as yet).At present I'm still struggling a littlewith the change in thought process thatyou have to adopt when working with surfaces, butas they say, the glass is half full......

Lee

I printed off a HUGE file containing all or most of the PTC user guides and manuals etc, but due to my lack of pro-e knowledge I just cant force myself to look at it yet lol, the thought of learning anything else scares me :O)

Here`s the endview of that handle, you can see its not tubular so not sure if the pipe command would be ok ?.... the bit I striggles with was blending the curves etc down towards the baseplate where it has to join with a perfect20mm dia circle. I managed it in the end though. pretty funky shape eh

Skint,

I see now, the Pipe idea wasn't really suitable for that, perhaps a variable section sweep instead.

Keep up the good work.

Great models MIKO, I like the speaker especially!

Nice design SKINT, I would put that on my sliding door if I had one
smiley4.gif
. My advice for the handle would be a swept blend. Your skills are definetly improving. You may not have done the handle the most optimal way (then again you might have) but you figured it out regardless and thats what a good modeler does. FInds a way.

Hey CP, yeah thanks mate
smiley2.gif
. I often wonder if I am doing things the right way around, but the guy who gives us pro-e support if we need it did tell me that, " if you managed to model what you need, and it looks the way you want it, then you did it the right way around" hehe.

I am trying to put a few more hours into modelling, as with my job I am not just a designer who can sit at his desk all day, I am tech support, helpline etc, marketting bla bla bla aswell asgeneral dogs body
smiley2.gif
so I can go days without using pro-e sometimes. I have started a model at home now ( many thanks to yu for a source of inspiration )and to be honest working at home with a bit of peace and quiet has allowed me to learn a few more things.

CP, If I may ask you one question..PM me rather than re-explaining on this post...because I know it has been discussed before... is : A better explanation of achieving your clay renders. Are they possible with standard pro-e ?

Interesting models Miko, especially apple, why model apple in ProE?, nevertheless apple look cool
smiley2.gif

Skint nice design of yours handle, very modern
smiley2.gif

In time your modeling skills will grow up and you will know few different ways to model something, in mean time results are that what counts

Its very simple actually, no reflection, very little shine, add a subtle bumpmap to the part and render in a room set with the same colors and parameters as the part. Use one lightbulb, set your colors to only accept 10% of ambient (yes, use ambient lighting). That will give you a clay render, the bump and no reflection is what gives the part a clay effect.

hiiiiiii

great work SKINT the model looks simply great for a beginner its really a great stuff i know with time u will improve a lot better

Cheers guys, thanks for the compliments.I do feel that I have made some good progress within the last two months, with thanks to this forum too and all the help that is freely given. Learning something like pro-e on your own can be very frustrating and sometimes gets me soooo mad when a part "fails" etc, but I keep plodding along and like CP said before.. " I find a way "

If I couldn`t find a way... i think I would simply give up. I will hopefully have some more models to show soon.

UPDATE : CP, how are you getting along with your human body model, have you started it ? Your Bel Air thread has gone a little quiet too, I hope things are progressing nicely for you with the potential copyright issues etc ? And thanks again for the clay render tips, sorry for asking twice.

Hi guys,

Good work Skwasim.. keep em coming.

I have attached another design that I did today, it has to compliment the shapes of the patio handle that I posted yesterday. The hinge design is already in production. This is a Concealed Hinge for typical pvc-udoors, all of the adjustment can be made by simply unscrewing and lifting of thecover cap, so I have added an image with the top removed.

Excuse the poor renderings though, I was in a hurry
