RENDERING...Q&A and GALLERY

Just so I get this straight. These two iamges are actual pictures of the products right? And...you want to be able to render in a white room without a ton of glair? Is this right? What model do you want rendered like that? I will give a crack at it as long as its either modeled in 1.0 or you have an .igs. I will render a digital remote right now. I have to setup the decails so it will take me a little bit.

yip! the images are Photos taken by our photographer, and exactly, I would like to reproduce renders of products in a similar setting to these photos..

as for the model, it doesn;t matter, it could be a sphere, a cube, a phone, a gun, a car.. I would just like to see a proe model rendered accurately in a white room!

don;t even worry about the decals for the time being! I'm really just wondering about room and light setup for such an image!

looking forward to some tips!

Cheers,

James

First of all, Mr. Cpiotrowski, You are really amazing, the black MUSTANG is excellent. I wonder how do u do this in PRO-E. Its unbelievable.

Hey James...I have seen ur work too. Its really good. That battle ship inspires me verymuch. I have set that battleship to my desktop. Cpiotrowski said that u have some good tutorials on rendering....if u are kind enough, please send me those tutorials at [email protected]or direct me to the related link. I will be waiting for ur response.

I plan on making a boundary blend turtorial for cars when I get a chance. Too many people cant view the mustang because they dont have the version it was modeled in so everyone who is interested...look out for my surfacing for cars tutorial coming soon.

Whenever I want to use decals or textures to cover a certain area I make them in Photoshop. Make whatever decals you want as big as they can be for Pro to accept them. Not quite sure what size that is...I constantly have to resize my images so Pro will recognize them. If you make a decal and it doesnt show up as a small image in your materials it usually means either the file size was too big or the image was too big. You will be safe somewhere around 600x600. If you are applying a decal to a small part of a big surface you will need to either copy that surface and cut out the part you want to put the decal on or make the decal large enough to cover the entire surface. Here is the problem you will run into. If you make a material or decal in Photoshop and apply it to surface on one part of a model you will need to make a blank texture that is the same color as the background of your decal. The reason for this is because if you take the RGB settings from your colors in Photoshop and try to apply them to a color in Pro the decal and the basic Pro color will be different because of ambient intensity and shade of the color. IT is best to just apply textures to all surfaces that have a decal on them. The color on the surfaces of the Mustang that have some kind of decal are all decals. The right door is not a standard Pro-e color, it is an applied texture so it matches the hood and roof. You dont have to use Photoshop, there are a ton of programs you can use to make images and I am sure most people have one. Paintshop, Fireworks...etc. If whenever possible I always try to apply the decals with the planar option. In this option the decal or texture will be projected onto the surface planar to the surface. If you use parametric it will divide all surfaces and apply the texture as a whole to each surface so if you want a decal to cover more than one surface you will need to use planar option. Also make sure your at some kind of a straight view on your model...top, front, bottom, side...etc. The materials will apply straight rather than you needing to change rotation because the decal was applied at a funky perspective. Remember, if your decal is not large enough to cover the entire surface you are applying it to for the size of the image you want, you will need to copy the surface and cut everything but the small piece of the surface you want to apply it to. Then cut the same spot out of the original surface so there arent duplicate surfaces in the same place. Hope this helps.

The reason the Mustang isnt done is becaause I have been too busy at work. I could finish it at home with the .igs but then noone will be able to get the .prt file of the complete car. It is close th

NICE RENDEING AND MODELLING GOING OUT HERE ESPECIALLY CIPIOTROWSKI IAM REALLY IMPRESSED BY UR WORK KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK GUYS I HAVE DONE A SIMPLE MODEL AND RENDERED IT I KNOW ITS NOWHERE NEARER COMPARE TO U GUYS BUT U CAN HELP ME OUT ATLEAST WHERE IAM GOING WRONG AND HOW CAN I IMPROVE MYSELF WAITING FOR UR RESPONSE

it looks nice smile, but ill improve the color in the palm, maybe if you were not so close to the corner of the room and had less direcctional lights...

there are too many shadows :p

use some decals on the buttons as well and maybe a nice rubber texture.

dont worry, i dont think its so easy to get to CPiotrowsky level but we`ll be practicing to get there :p

Thanks Skwasim, your compliments always help to make my day. I would love to help you on the model but the render is kinda small to critique. Here is my render setup for the image just behind the small tutorial. Try some of these settings. Try to remember simplicity=realistic...good luck!

FYI: The mustang isnt completely done but enough to distribute. I am gonna start a new thread just for people to post if they want the model.

Hi CPiotrowski,

this manual is really helpful allthough I didn't try to apply such
settings to my models. I will try to do it next week and will hopefully
be able to post one of my renderings.

Thanks for posting the manual.

Have a nice weekend

Thanks Sesser, hope it helps you.

I would say for a start the settings on the wheels look very good. Where is the pink shading coming from in the second pic? If you are attempting to alter the colors of the lights that is fine, I usually add a little yellow to the light to show a similar realistic sunlight or lightbulb. Real light isnt always white. Try to turn your shine down on the room so it doesnt take away from the model render. Also, try to give me a larger picture to work with. Very hard to critique renders with such small pics. Fro ma modeling standpoint; According to the bolt spacing on the wheels these would be huge and very brittle because of the thickness. It may be hard to believe but alot of the realism in renders are due to the details in the models. Look how much more realistic some parts of my models look because of details, quite a few. Wheel also needs to be much wider. Try to make the wheel width about half the diameter of the wheel, kinda what I go by. Back wheels a little wider. Good start though, I can look past the pink and see great chrome. Keep making fine adjustments and work on the realism and details of the model. If mentally creating a realistic wheel is though then look at a pic or try to duplicate the wheels on the Mustang, that will be the best reference for you if you are trying to duplicate a render. Keep up the work.

FYI...the final touches to all my renders are done in Photoshop.

Not many Rendering programs can give perfect photorealistic lighting so you have to adjust it in Photoshop. If you dont have photoshop, get it! It will greatly improve your lighting in your renders. All professional renderers use it for final touches.

Also I am very upset that they locket that thread, this is a professional forum where there should be no worries about puting your email address up. If someone feels comfortable with puting their email up here then let them. I dont give a sh*t if someone gets my email. If I dont want to get emails from people I just add them to my spam list. Moderate what needs moderated, not just for something to do.
