Wildfire 5.0

There is a final beta test scheduled about the same time pre release is slated for the upload... (Nov Dec 2008) I am not sure what specifics are released to the buying market however I can say I saw some exciting tools at the PTC user conference last June.I can't recall what I saw released fro the public and what I saw in technical meetings so i should just stay quite (which is hard for someone who speaks up like i do)

Even more amazing tools for WF6.0!

Does anyone know any specifics for WF5.0?

it is my understanding that that is why there are alpha and beta testing procedures. (I read about that on wikipedia) Alpha is for how the software works and beta is for how the interface works. Preproduction is like a post beta testing.this is my understanding and not that of PTC... And if in preproduction we find some problems which we probably well... then we report those so that the first build code works well.

What I heard from a re seller today is that Drawing is wild fired!

Drawing needs a overhauling thats for sure. I have Wildfire 4 in my office but out in the labs, we never upgraded from 3.0. I guess I better get the ball rolling.

What would you want to see for an upgrade to detail drawing functions? Better ability to draw lines like in autocad?

I think the detail drawing functionality is spot on in Pro/ENGINEER.At least most everything occurs in the part and not in the drawing like Solidworks....

I think if we were to make a list we would want to make discussions with pros and cons lists before we made a submission to PTC for enhancements.

I've been on WF4.0 for a while and like it.

Ill start it out and say that:
1. I get a little confused getting a repeat region working properly with the balloons ect.
2. Translate and draw lines functions could be even more like sketcher with the intent manager. (it has matured for wf4.0
3. maybe the .dtl could be organized better (but I'm not prepared to say how)

I agree with Magnusod. Even I'm a new user of ProE, I think the main weak point of it is the drawing side. Drawing detailing with ProE is like you drawn with Catia V3... It's not a real drawing, just a particular representation in a plan what you do in 3D, soit's not a real projection, like others soft. NX, CATIA, Solidworks, all these soft make full associative true projections of the 3D model. Not only specific "flat" view of the 3D. That's a main difference. And explain we are also limited in drawing options. And, I think about a realistic update :a print preview anda real WYSIWYG drafting mode, with true thickness and so on. That could be a major overhaul in detailling, and helpfull PTC to win newcustomers.

I was really impressed by creation of views in Catia - ease of use and eye candy effects. Same with X-sections. Sounds like cheap advertisment? - maybe, but it was more fun then in Pro/E.

Those were pluses. Now - disadvantages - dimensions - say what You want, but show/erase and usage of dims from Part says to me laugter and clever than creating all dims in drawing mode. Here, Catia sucked to me(this is my subiective opinion!!!)

Drawing mode has been lacking since I started using Pro|E 12 years ago. Frankly, it hasn't changed much since. It's one of the most frustrating area of the software. Lots of capability, but real hard to figure out.

I find the creation of views and what they repesent are excellent in pro-e, its the crappy dimensioning that winds me up!!

WF5.0 a full new release eh.... wooo lets hope so. The new failure diagnostic has got to be a bonus !

You struggle with fail mode?I have a four hour workshop that gets users familiar with living in fail mode. And the analogy is how you work on your car.... except diagnostics with respect to a failed feature in Pro/E.It requires a little bit of guess work (like the car analogy) and a process. Works every time too. I can try to explain but it's easier to watch. maybe thats my next youtube video... but I already get complaints that I go to fast.... thats a hard topic to cover with a youtube video. Anyways... i am surprised you struggle with that. Skint: You have over 2000 hrs on Pro/E?

what about the ability to actually embed an Excel (or other spreadsheet) table onto your drawing eaisly......like via cut and paste. Editing tables in Pro Engineer is a P.I.T.A.

I wonder if there is a way the forum moderators or who ever can create a post at the top that sits always on top for enhancement requests like that. I am sure we would attract the Technical Committee leaders to the forum and they could cut and paste the enhancement requests (it makes them look good anyway to come with a compiled list with examples).

In solidworks you can cut and paste.

I think that drawing like ACAD would be helpful at times. There are times that you just need some additional lines that aren't necessarily needed in the model, just in the drawing. Here are some things, off the top of my head:
<UL>
<LI>Better x-hatch editing</LI>
<LI>more flexible dimensioning with visual, on the fly feedback</LI>
<LI>smoother workflow on note/balloon placement</LI>
<LI>better control over section letter height and font.</LI>
<LI>easier ways to break dims that cross</LI>
<LI>simpler BOMs & repeat regions</LI>
<LI>more intuitive perspective mode</LI>
<LI>easier to tie items together (balloons to a view or dim)</LI>[/list]

There's a lot of functions in there, but it's real hard to access most of them. They're pushing 3D drawings, my contention is that 2D drawings work well and are universal and platform independent. Make it stupid easy to build a good 2D drawing and the need for 3d Drawings diminishes.

For the resolve mode enhancements, I just hope they don't dumb it down. There are a lot of good tools in there, don't break them just make them more accessible.

what I wish that PTC must improve the mold splitting/designing and manufacturing. If WF behave like powermill in manufacturing area, it will be most famous software of the industry.
Another improvement that feels to be needed is extrude/revolve of any type of curve rather then only sketched ones.

I think it is beneficial for PTC to ensure that the vars conduct certified training .... so that users can see the improvements. not that you did not get a wf4.0 update class but the drawing tools in drawing mode are quite a bit more functional....I would like to see the usability change a bit still however the tools is quite a bit more enhanced over the drawings tools of say V20... not enough change in 10 years if you ask me ....

Interesting point Zaki... I never thought about why one would want to revolve any 3d curve... let me think about that more. You are the expert for moldbase geometry.

Hi
I am also desperately wait for WF5 and hope to see the drastic change in drawing module as well as in manufacturing module.
