Wildfire 5.0

Wow - this is like my dream Christmas gift.

'Approximate Surface Offset' - I hope that applies to Shell also. 'Curvature Continuous Rounds' - my prayers have been answered. 'Warp Feature Enhancements' - icing on the cake.

Where do I sign up?

I can't disclose anything about WF5 other than what is published on the site however I am going to Waltham next week to push surfacing tools very hard. (beta test) wf5.0 ...

Unbelievable - today I'm modeling a part and I make some changes that cause references to fail in a feature upstream.

I go to redefine and it reverts back to the old pre-Intent Manager Sketcher menu.

I get the message: "Section must be regenerated successfully before turning Intent Manager ON." So I have to model release 17 style to resolve the sketch. This isone thingthey need to fix once and for all. Intent Manager should never go off ever.

It happened to me too, what we need to do in this case is without doing any modification in the sketch , go to top down menu- Sketch and check

That's the first thing I tried but no luck. That's when I got the message in the dashboard:

"Section must be regenerated successfully before turning Intent Manager ON."

I wonder how users who have no pre-Wildfire experience deal with this? It must be pretty confusing.

Hope fully you can comeback with more exciting news.

I for one hail an improved problem resolver. I just hate to have to delete features because their parent failed somehow. This is a rare thing but is very annoying when it happens.

I haven't used v4 yet, but one other thing that annoys me greatly with v3 is that when selecting stuff it defaults to edges and stuff and not surfaces when the selection box is set to "Smart". This means a lot of hunting and right-click pecking for me because I mostly use surfaces when I measure and make references.

I think it is a fossile from the old days when you mostly modeled in hidden line wireframe mode.

I haven't felt that the drawing module lacks much, but I am annoyed at how repeat regions and BOM balloons take extra thinking every time because they like to refer to representations and such that aren't even used. Maybe I just suck at it, but I think it is overly complicated compared to say Inventor.

Also, it GREATLY annoys me how all beam elements in Pro/Mechanica are one pixel wide making it a chore to try to target them with Info → Dynamic Query on my 1920x1200 screen.

Further, if my part or assembly lacks a parameter and I add it in drawing mode, it becomes a drawing parameter, not associated with the part or assembly. While this is certainly logical, it is also inconvenient.

If there would be one thing I would like to see it would be that models and drawings are contained in the same file, AutoCAD style, with one set of parameters for both. I suppose this is too much to ask for though and that it would break a lot of PDM systems.

But what good is a separate drawing file anyway? It's not as if it can live without the models it depicts?

automatic set Shade quality to 10 instead of 3

Im going to a wildfire 5.0 launch on the 18th Nov too, so I will report back with anything that I find interesting. Looking forward to seeing all these new changes.

SKINT: you mean a dtl setting for being able to set the shade quality?

I never considered doing it with a .dtl.

Everytime I start up pro-e I am now in the habbit of going stright into setup to change the 3- 10.

Mugen, yeah apparently lots have changed with renderings & also detailing drawings. Lets wait & see

Our PTC rep told me that in WF5, the rendering engine is changedand ismuch better and more user friendly

I'll reserve judgment until I see it, but it sounds like pro/e is falling behind its competition in rendering (and surfacing too?). It seems other programs are all the time developing plug-ins for v-ray, luxology, maxwell, etc. while PTC is conspicuously not.

In my opinion it is the real advantage of Pro/E. The reason that other software depending on third party is that they cannot develop their software, or else their platform is already full of patches.

Also in my opinion this is the reason why other softwares crashing very often in their recent releases ( because of their party plug in.)

WF, is one big honking patch to get old UNIX code able to run on a Windows box. WF isn't even a true Windows app!
