RENDERING...Q&A and GALLERY

ARX is an extension that you can purchase from PTC's website. That is the first step but its not cheap. Last time I heard it was 1,000.00 US.

Thanks for the great words. Good luck!

I'm not exactly sure who you are referring to. I was messing around at work today and decided to sharpen up on my box-modeling sufacing. I gotta say, it is 10X easier to model a car from a blueprint than making one from your head.

CP, I was about to post that I thought it was an Audi A8 before I read it, must be a good model

I was thinking of you last night, I recently bought myself an XBOX 360 and I have been playing Project Gotham Racing ( google it if your unsure what I`m talking about hehe ). The car models in this game are simply superb, the surfacing, the renders, the detail is fantastic. I was thinking to myself " Wow, CP is capable of creating some models of this standard ".

Have you ever animated one of your models that is fully rendered etc ? I am not sure if pro-e can even achieve animated models that are rendered ?

I was thinking of a simple basis of say, placing your mustang model, fully detailed and rendered, onto a rotating disc and making a small animated clip of it rotating ?

I also have the 360 and Project Gotham racing. The game is amazing. Every car has somewhere around 90,000 poly's which for a video game is unheard of. I play PGR online all the time, my 360 name is BloodYCaiN. Add me as a friend and we will hook up for some racing or shooting action. I also play Ghost Recon online on a regular basis. Pro-e will do rendered animations but only with Photorenderer frames. For some reason they never made it a possibility to use raytracing for the animations. When I get my new computer up and running (hopefully tonight) I will likely try to make exactly what you were talking about. So far tho I am having an issue with rendering frames coming out black. Plus, it just took my computer way too long to render it out. The images might be black because of my primitive computer choking.

In my opinion, if you want to learn how to surface, using a blueprint and following body lines is the way to go, very easy! If you really want a challenge, model one from your head, very hard!

hiiii cp

As always ur excellent with ur work man u always keep impressing we guys out here we dont know when we r gonna reach the level u Isair and Design engine are there

as u said abt box modelling is it the trace sketch option ur refering to man iam trying like anything to get tht thing right basically i cant put images to a scale on the planes so if u could plz share a tip or two abt this stuff how to place the blue prints it would be very help i know we guys are asking lot from u from the past few days hope u gonna help me out in this

Ahh nice one CP, my name is Evil Skint on PGR, hopefully we will be on at the same times... i guess weekends are our best chance.

Funnily enough I was thinking of buying Ghost Recon today, looks like an awesome game. I have always been hesitant with shootem up type games on the xbox etc, simply because of the unaccuracy of the controller ( walking and aiming at the same time ).... its difficult for me because I am generally more of a PC player and games like Counter Strike, or Day or Defeat and Call of Duty etc using keys and mouse is much more accurate.

I think it is likely I will have GRAW by the wekend though

Back to pro-e though, yes I am slowly but surely progressing. Standard modelling is not so much of a nightmare for me now, surfacing I am just starting with but doing OK... its the indepth things that I know need to come to terms with, such as parameters, family tables, the config.pro files, animation at some point, analysis etc.. bla bla bla.. the hidden stuff, aswell as making a convincing render. I would and will eventually get around to learning the Style tool too, I just need to convince work to get me a copy of wildfire I can take home with me hehe.

I would confidently say that in the two or three months I have been playing around with pro-e, I can now possibly change my signature as the pro-e noob

OK, I will try to give a brief description on how to line up blueprints. When you save a print for online, try to make sure its a print with some basic dimensions. Like wheelbase, height of car, width of car and length of car. Make planes to designate these common measurments along with the ground. WHen you apply a decal to eiter a plane or a surface, line up the top, bottom, sides, and front of the car with your designated planes. This should get you very close to perfect on all three images. Cutting each image out isnt necessary because you can simply just expand and move the full print.

Ghost recon is amazing, I highly recommend getting it.

Hope that helps.

This was done for the vase modeling challenge, rendered with regular photorenderer. Sorry, didnt have time to mess with the rounds.

Hello again

I finally got round to modify the roomsettings. I found a great website for textures and bump maps (see "Online Information Center" in the modeling forum). I also added a new light source, a light bulb, not very controllable but does the job. As usual, all comments are welcome

Steve,

I like the metalic appearance and relections on the metal supports, was the same finish applied to the suspended balls (no pun intended

) as they look a lot lighter in colour, or is it due to the lighting conditons and placement?

Well done.

Rgds,

Lee

Hi Guys

thanks for your comments

Lee, I used the same material on both the supports and the balls, the only thing I can conclude is that the ray tracerreflects light on acylinder in a different way to a sphere. Wonder if anyone else has had the same kind of result
