RENDERING...Q&A and GALLERY

DJCAD, these are two cars that i've either made or started. The second one was an idea I had for a redesigned belair but I changed the entire front end in my head so it stopped there.

todd, those renders are nice... but did you model in pro-e ?

EDIT : I have just browsed the forum on the hypershot website, some excellent renders on thier. They use a mixture of model building softwares but the rendering capabilities of hypershot gets a lot of praise. I awiat my license email for the trial

Yes. I had those models laying around in pro-e. hypershot is quite easy/quick to use. Somewhat limited, but you can't get much easier to use.

That program does seem to make some nice renders. How are the materials in the program. From what I can see they are already setup or these initial renders wouldnt look so good. I may need to try this software out whenI get a chance. Can you post a link to the download?

Nice models skint and todd.

I've found thatexporting my Pro/e assembly as a STEP file works best. I import it into hypershot, reorient it, snap it to ground, apply materials to each part, and thats it. There is a nice set of predefined materials to choose from but you can modify them or make your own. I've messed around with the environments a little which are *.hdr files that are made into a sphere surrounding the model. The "lights" are really just light spots in the hdr files. The hdr files must be in "equirectangular" format to work right (google that word if you want to know more). I've made a few of my own hdr files in photoshopCS2that worked out pretty good. It also has real time rendering which means it is constantly rendering your model, starting over each time you move it or apply material, etc. In some ways its nice because it kind oflets yousee how it will look as you go, on the other hand it bogs things down a bit and your processor is constantly maxed out. Also the user interface not that great. It took me a lot of lookingto find how to do certaintasks.

I should mention that this is the first 3rd party rendering software I have ever used so I might not be the best person to give a review!!!

Wow, i've been away a while. I just looked at the gallery for Hypershot...very impressive. I definetly need to give the demo a try. Has anyone else done any renders with this program?

modo from luxology is all the rage at the moment. http://www.luxology.com/

This software has really taken the world by storm. I would not waist you time messing with anything else unless the render utility has some kind of ability (for workflow and speed) to read in Pro/E Parts like Maya, Alias, ir Image Studio.

Modo is all the rage at the moment.

Bart, this image looks familiar. Was it featured on the CG Society website ?

Must check that software out, looks very impressive.

came from the luxology website in their gallery section.

Herman Miller did not use MODO here but the shadows look very similar to how|
Maya handles shaders and light

I don't think we could get this close in Pro/E wf3.0 but we should give her a try. With the new parametric procedural parametriers with the materials in wf3.0 we might get close? Stiching is easy in Maya and Modo like that. We would have to fake that sh*t in wf3.0 using photoshop

Notice they priced it like Rhino and there is a free download. (for 25 bucks) ;)

I'm running WF4 beta, and it looks like I will add ARX end of the year (it does appear to be inexpensive by PTC standards) just for higher quality animation capability. I also picked up Maxwell Render plus 3 free nodes. I would like to switch to a Mac Pro in January and install either Parallels or use Boot Camp to run Pro/e.

My question is: What are the choices for animation packages that work well with Pro/e, especially assemblies?

I'm only looking at OSX compatible packages, and Modo, Maya and Cinema4D seem to have the best potential, but I'm open to others.

thanks,

tom

Watch the animation side of Modo. They are developing it but my understanding is that the current version only does translation, scale and rotate. Im pretty sure they will have deformation added soon.

I noticed people are posting renders in random threads so I wanted to bump this up so they can put them here so people dont miss them in the sea of small threads.

I should be adding some images soon. What sucks is that I cant post some of my renders and recent models that I have done because they havent been released to the public yet. I actually do have images and models to show like the final design of the scuba goggles which turned out really nice. I am really close to finishing my invention for rapid prototype so when that gets done I will for sure post it. I guess as long as people dont know what it is it wont hurt me to show the final model.

I know people are out there making models...post em!

unfortunately the danger is that they get lost is the sea of 100 pages of this post.. it's impossible to find anything in this post - especially any of the many well worth while tips..
