Modelling Competition 2006 - Suggestions.

Speling you are sounding good!

Looks like you are almost there. Combine all the suggestion on here for rules so we can vote on them.

Have the committee members been selected? I'd like to move the details of planning this event to a private forum. If you have "most" members selected, that's fine. Additional members can be added later if need be.

Thanks,

Admin

Speling, well done for having the time and patience ti keep this thread going, we know its frustrating trying to please everybody and getting things started is the biggest problem, once it has started things will be fine.

The competition could be a small one for starters, perhaps only having a week modelling time etc... you will then see the amount of people who are interested and also get a good understanding of how "everything works".

Keep up the good work and let us all know how the progress is going.

Ok

Only short brief to inform people about some new stuff concerning competition.

Committee is almost created.
smiley32.gif
It
has 3 of 5 members (me not included). We prepared lots of stuff to talk
about and we already start talking or we suggest different kind of
topics about what we must make decisions even in this incomplete form.
I hope so that committee will be created in whole in next few days
(maybe weak) because some members don

Hello!

This is my first post on this forum. I am
extremely interested in PRO/E competition.

As CPiotrowsky said, there should be three judging categories:

1 MODELING
2 CREATIVITY
3 PRESENTATION

There should be competition both for students
and experienced PRO/E gurus...

We don't know yet, for time now there committee is forming, and then come rules, theme etc. When all that is formed I'm sure that either on this thread or new one it would be announcement.

BTW Welcome on Forum

thats cool. new members already. Thats why you have cool competitions like this! I will send out a message to [email protected] and to our design-engine.com base. I am on at least 3 other fourms too. Don't forget to discuss the PR write up etc. If someone gets that to me I can post it around the internet. Should I send this Private Message?

Sounds like things are starting to come together. Looking forward to seeing how this pans out, should be an interesting start to what could become a very popular feature with competitions monthly etc.

Robert_Jack_S Welcome aboard, this is a great forum with a good bunch of people having fun. Stick around

Hi everybody !

It is not my first day on this forum (this is
my second day), so I would like to make few
suggestions:

Primo. Give people time! Time to prepare projects. I think deadline should be ~October / November, 2006.

Second Primo. Shortly: One competitor = One, Two or
Three projects, no more. Three projects - In my opinion - is enough to show own skills.

Third Primo. Divide competition projects on
categories - by industry:
- Transportation (Automotive, Aerospace, Railway,...)
- Consumer goods
- etc.......

Fourth Primo. Think about following competitors categories:
- Students
- Entry-Level designers
- Designers with some experience
- Senior designers ( CAD/CAM gurus )

Fifth Primo. Think about motivation ! Think about
awards for best competitors.
This can be 3D Printer for 1st place,
PC workstation for 2nd and 3rd place,
CAD/CAM software for 4-6th places
and books for 7-10th places.
IMHO you must award best competitors a prize.
Satisfaction is not enough :)

Bye !
Hope some of my suggestions will be helpful ;)

This is meant to be a short competition, one or two weeks. Nothing too extensive. If you give me six months then i'm gonna model the space shuttle

CPiotrowski, I believe that contest was already won by Burt Rutan of Scaled Composites, but in six months I expect to see a shuttle of some sort!!

Few things to think about concerning types of competition.

1. Weeks competition
Competitor will have one week to finish all job connected to specific theme.
2. One day competition
Competitor will have one whole day to finish all job connected to specific theme.
3. Speedy competition
Competitor will compete to finish all jobs connected to specific theme in short time.

Rules for 1&2 competition will slightly be different than in case of 3.

In (3) best time will earned points beside all already features, which will be graded.

Speedy competition will be from different

Speed is one of the main considerations with a competition like this because as we all know, Life gets in the way. Everybody has a job to do, everybosy has a life to lead and not many people are fortunate enough to have pro-e installed and available on a home machine... so basically that means ifyou intend ongiving people one week to model a project for the competition, it also means that some people will have 5 hours ( 1 hour lunch breakper 5 days at work ) and others will have 25 hours or more depending on thier lifestyleif they have pro-e for personal use.

Its a tricky thing to consider and sort out, but I believe quite an important thing to consider if it is a main objective of the competition.

Thoughts anyone ?
